HEALTHIER BEER

I've never been a big beer drinker because I don't understand how someone can regularly consume a beverage that makes you burp and get bloated - ew! Plus, wheat consumption has gotten out of control and there are many reasons for everyone to cut down. I can only handle one or two beers every now and then, such as a Corona Light with a lime while watching a game, lounging by the water, or the occasional Asahi Super Dry with sushi (I'm from Japan, after all). Guiness is usually saved for St. Patrick's Day when celebrating my Irish heritage, but after reading recent studies on light versus dark beers, I'm going to switch it up.

We are told through advertising that the lighter the beer, the better it is for you, but that's just a sales pitch. Sure, a light beer is delicious and "only 64 calories", but if beer is your drink of choice, go for a darker one. Dark beers help to prevent blood clots and don't mess with your blood sugar as much as lighter ones, which have fewer enzymes and are over-refined. It would be a better choice to have a glass of red wine or clear liquor with sparkling water, but at least you can do what the Egyptians did with less guilt now - have a beer!

Here's an Irish toast for you:
May you...
Work like you don't need the money,
love like you've never been hurt,
dance like no one is watching,
screw like its being filmed,
and drink like a true Irishman.

Please don't do this often (the drunk part) ;-).
